Why Choose Vinyl WIndows?

If anyone is deciding to become a homeowner, they will either purchase a new or used home. Now, in the majority of new homes, the home building contractor will install vinyl replacement windows. The homes being built before the 1980s were fitted with windows made of aluminum. Aluminum and wood windows were the only materials available to home builders before the creation idea to use vinyl was thought of. With the old aluminum windows, they caused problems such as rusting over time, caused a draft throughout the home and could only be installed with single panes.

When vinyl windows began being used in the 1980s, even though they were not as cost effective as aluminum windows, they looked aesthetically better and they could be made with double pane and triple pane glass. The double or triple paned window glass causes the home from having any drafts. A drafty home only causes the homeowner to pay more for their monthly energy bill. This is why vinyl replacement windows have become the replacement window of choice for older homes and even newer homes. This is why when thinking of purchasing an old or new home, a potential homeowner should research and learn what they can about vinyl replacement windows.

As potential homeowners learn more about the advantages of vinyl replacement windows, they will never look back at the old standby aluminum windows. Another excellent reason for the investment in vinyl replacement windows is they will never have to be painted. They only come in the colors of white or almond. Once looking at what vinyl replacement windows look like, you might want them to be more attractive. There are, in fact, several outer window frames a homeowner can request when purchasing their homes windows. Right now, there are two exterior frames a homeowner can choose from.

There is the Coil Wrap, Integrated Flange and Decorative Flange window frame. When a homeowner is looking at Coil Wrap vinyl replacement windows, they should know these windows, as it turns out, are covered on one side with a thin layer of aluminum. The coil wrap is actually available in a variety of colors. The colors might be a forest green to an off-white color. This is the only way a homeowner can add a color to the exterior of their vinyl replacement windows. Another added feature of coil wrap windows is, they have a faux wood grain look which can make the windows look as if they belong to your home. One thing to consider when purchasing coil wrap windows is the possibility of dents. This, of course, would be due to the aluminum frame.

If coil wrap windows are not your cup of tea, there are the integrated flange vinyl replacement windows to consider. These window frames have between a 1 to 4 inch wide vinyl strip and are standard window frames for the majority of homes being built today. When vinyl replacement windows are made with flange, also known as a rim, it will hide the rough and unattractive caulking on the exterior of the window. Having integrated flange windows installed can make your home look like they are not part of the home. This is something to consider as the homeowner is looking for vinyl replacement windows.

The beveled glass actually has etching in the glass which is an added plus to the overall look of the vinyl replacement windows.

The installation of vinyl replacement windows requires the removal of the inside molding and trimming. As for the frame removal, the weights and cords will have to be taken out as well. The windows which came with the home will also have the parting stops found at the top and bottom of the window removed. Old aluminum windows will have to have their tracks removed and staples removed as well. Once old window is removed, from the inside of the home, place the new window into the now open space. As the window is being installed, make sure the window is level and if need be, add shims. Instead of drilling new holes, use the already drilled holes for installation purposes. When the window looks completely installed, add the insulation around the whole window frame. When adding the insulation, make sure not to use too much insulation as it will cause the window to buckle or bow.
